What is Your Scar?
I was talking to someone recently about scars. You know everyone has scars, whether we can see them or not, we all have them.
I remember when I was a little girl standing on an old floor furnace at my grandmother’s house. I mean they were wonderful! The heat just radiated over your body. They are great, until you fall on the furnace. And then they are not so fun!
But here’s the interesting thing. I can still see that scar on my knee from so many years ago. It no longer hurts, but the scar is still there. And do you know that scar can bring back some wonderful, powerful memories – memories of a grandmother who loved me and prayed for me, who made the most amazing mashed potatoes in the world! Really great memories, right?
So just for fun, I looked up the word scar in the dictionary.
Scar – a permanent mark on the skin where a wound heals.
Okay, so the mark may be permanent but the wound will heal. That’s what we really want right? Just to be healed! And that’s what Jesus does for us! He heals and restores. And sometimes leaves the mark or scar to remind us of where we have been!
