The Power of Persistence

Some of you may have heard me tell a story about our youngest daughter, Tiffany. She had heard that Cabella’s (a sporting goods store) had really good fudge. Every day when I would pick her up from school, she would say, “Not today, but, one day, let’s go to Cabella’s and get fudge!” After several days of this (it might have actually been weeks) I said, “Tiffany, we are going to get fudge today!” To be honest, it wasn’t because I really wanted to go to Cabella’s! (I mean really, who goes to a sporting goods store for fudge?) But it was (1) because I love my daughter, and (2) she absolutely was not going to give up!!

Now, if she had given up and not persisted, I don’t know if we would have ever tried that fudge! But she didn’t! You know she never got mad or upset, but she kept it right there in front of me! What if we had that kind of “persistent faith”? Like a “dog with a bone” kind of faith?

“…Be direct. Ask for what you need. This is not a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. If your little boy asks for a serving of fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? If your little girl asks for an egg, do you trick her with a spider? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing – you’re at least decent to your own children” (Luke 11:9 Message).

We serve a loving, Heavenly Father who desires to do good things for His children! Have a thankful heart and be persistent!!
