Memories
During the last couple of weeks we have seen four saints go home to be with the Lord. I wanted to share some of my thoughts with you.
Carl Reed, how we will miss you! You were such a man of integrity. You always had a smile on your face and a kind word for everyone! You were one of the heroes of Capitol Hill.
Sherry White, you were such a blessing to those around you! You were truly beautiful inside and out! I remember when I was asked to help with a funeral not long ago. That’s not something I usually do, but you looked at me and told me that I could do it. Thank you for your words of encouragement!
David Singleton, you were an inspiration! You struggled physically for quite a while, but you never gave up. You came every chance you could and played for worship! God saw your faithfulness and it touched our hearts.
John Cowan was the father of Cindy Freeman. He lived in a different city and didn’t often get to attend our church. But I remember the kindness of this man. After his wife passed away, he sent me two beautiful gifts from her that I will always treasure.
Proverbs 10:7 says, “The memory of the uncompromisingly righteous is a blessing.” We are truly blessed for having known these who have gone before us!
If you have a heavy heart today, let me leave you with this…
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren,
about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve
as do the rest who have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so God will bring with Him those who have
fallen asleep in Jesus.
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we
who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord,
will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God,
and the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up
together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air,
and so we shall always be with the Lord.
Therefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Get ready!! We are closer to that day than we have ever been!!!
