Small Beginnings

Zechariah 4:10 says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”

Recently, one of my daughters and I were talking about “small beginnings.” For example, how something can start out small and grow into something that is really big and significant.

The more I thought about this, the more I remembered things in the Bible that started out as a “small beginning.”

David brought down a giant with a small stone.

Jesus fed the 5,000 with a boy’s small lunch.

Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses as a baby and he led the children of Israel out of Egypt.

And more importantly, Jesus came as a tiny baby and He is the Savior of the world.

There are so many times in our lives when we feel small and insignificant, but think what God can do with “small beginnings.” The Lord rejoices to see the work begin!

God sees where we begin, but He also sees where we are heading. We are all a “work in progress.” He sees our potential and He knows what He can do through us as we surrender ourselves to Him.
