Isaiah 43:1-3
The Book of Isaiah is one of my favorite books in all the Bible! I especially love these verses in Isaiah 43:1-3. “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by name; you are Mine! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…”
These are such powerful words! It doesn’t say we won’t go through some water or fire. But it does say the water won’t overflow over us and the fire will not burn or scorch us.
I think the message here is that in this fallen world we will experience trials, but that God will bring us through them! Victoriously!
It’s so important to remember that God, the Holy One of Israel, is our Savior. And that He has redeemed us, He calls us by name, and we belong to Him.
The word “redeemed” is an interesting word. One definition says, “that we have been liberated from captivity.” That’s what our Savior did for us. He liberated us from our sins. And God always protects what belongs to Him! Always! So not only did He set us free, He also protects and provides for us, His children!
