God is Our Refuge and Strength
This is such a special verse to me. I remember the pastor I grew up under preaching from this passage at a funeral many years ago.
It was a hard funeral to attend. The young minister had been in a car accident. No one else was involved in the accident. He left behind a young family and had recently accepted the pastorate of a church. His death seemed so senseless.
Because he was a minister, several ministers were invited to speak at his memorial service. Many of them quoted from Romans 8:28 that says, “All things work together for good for those who love God.” This is a great verse, but on this particular day, it wasn’t very comforting to me.
But then my pastor spoke. When he quoted this verse, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,” that was something I could hold on to! That’s what I needed to hear!
I needed a place of refuge and I needed God to be my strength. I have thought of this verse many times since then and it has always brought me peace and comfort. I pray it does for you as well!
