The Faith of Abraham

Romans 4:17 is one of my all-time favorite verses.

“He (Abraham) dared to trust God to do what only God could do: raise the dead to life, with a word make something out of nothing.” (MSG)

There is something so powerful about this verse! Just reading it encourages me.

We know that only God can bring the dead to life. No one in all the universe has the power to do that. No one else, but our God, can make something out of nothing.

That is all so good, but the really important thing for me in this verse is that Abraham dared to “trust God.” Trust is relying on the integrity of God with confident expectation. He knew God could be trusted. He was living with the confident expectation that God would do what He promised to do.

What are you trusting God for? Do you really believe God will do what He said He would do? Do you believe He can make something out of nothing? If the answer is “yes,” think of the miracles and answers to prayer we can begin to see if we truly have the faith of Abraham.
