Peace Like a River
I was thinking recently about an old song we used to sing. The first verse said, “I’ve got peace like a river,” the second said, “I’ve got love like an ocean,” and the third said, “I’ve got joy like a fountain.”
As I was thinking about this song, I realized that those are the very things that Jesus brings into our lives.
First of all, He gives us peace. Not temporary peace like the world gives, but real inner peace. Peace that sustains us. Peace like a river. Have you ever sat quietly by a river that flows gently over the rocks? That’s the peace God gives us.
What about love like an ocean? If we really have that much love in our heartslove like an oceannothing can distract us! No matter what might come our way, all that love will push right through it! The ocean of God’s love is huge!
And what about joy like a fountain? Have you ever seen a fountain that just bubbles up? I saw a beautiful fountain outside of a museum recently and it was breathtaking!
And all of this is exactly what Jesus gives us! Peace! Love! Joy!
