The Power of a Gentle Whisper

In 1 Kings 19:11-12, there is a fascinating story about Elijah.  He had been running from Jezebel, the wicked queen.  God told him to go out and stand before Him on the mountain.  While Elijah was standing there, the Lord passed by and there was a mighty windstorm, but the Lord was not in the wind.  After the wind, there was a mighty earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.  Then there was a fire.  The Lord was not in any of those things.  But then there was a gentle whisper.  And that’s where God showed up.

So many times, we are looking for God in the “big things” like the wind, the earthquake and the fire.  And if we are not careful, we can miss Him.  God can absolutely show up in the big things, but many times He wants to show Himself mighty in little things, that might seem insignificant.  Let’s not miss what God is doing by looking only for the “big things.”  Let’s listen for that gentle voice.  Let’s become more aware of His presence that surrounds us every day.  As we seek Him with our whole hearts, He will show Himself powerful in a “gentle whisper.”
