The Value of a Sheet
For our all church Christmas banquet this year, we had a wonderful artist and speaker, Richard Hight. This is always a highlight of the year for me!
We always have a great speaker, good music, and delicious food. But this year was very unique because the speaker was also an artist.
In about 15 minutes, he drew a beautiful nativity scene with chalk. It was fascinating to watch him at work. And then he shared his story.
At one point, he sat down next to a lady and asked if she knew what the picture was drawn on. She thought maybe it was a chalkboard. No. He explained it was just an ordinary black sheet from Walmart! Really? This amazing work of art was on a sheet? It couldn’t at least be a fancy, expensive sheet? No, just a plain sheet from Walmart.
Somehow that just touched my heart! If God can use an ordinary sheet, surely He can use us. It doesn’t even have to be a fancy or expensive sheet. It just has to be available and ready to be used.
The next time you are tempted to question your gifts and talents remember the value of a black sheet from Walmart! The real beauty was in what the master artist created on that sheet! The Master Creator wants to create something beautiful in our lives!
