What’s in a Name?

There’s a really great verse in 1 Peter chapter 4 verse 16. It says, “Praise God for the privilege of being in Christ’s family and being called by his wonderful name!”

Wow! Think about that for a minute. We have the privilege of being in Christ’s family because of what He did for us on the cross. His sacrifice made it possible that we can be in the family of God and be joint heirs with Jesus. And we get to be called by his wonderful name!

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to be in a royal family? As believers, we are! That’s a pretty heavy responsibility.

As “Christ followers” we want to represent Him in the very best way we can! That means we need to think about how we respond in every situation. Like when we are in a restaurant and the service is unbelievably slow, do I show “Christ-like” qualities or do I just let them know how irritated I am?

Would my Father be pleased that I have His name? I could go on, but you get the message. I want to please Him in every situation and bring honor to my Father’s name!

Here’s a bonus as a believer. The very last verse in chapter 4 says, “…trust yourself to the God who made you, for he will never fail you.” So we not only get to be in the family of God, but we also have the assurance that our God, who made us, will never fail us! What an incredible Heavenly Father we have!
