Selah
I am always so blessed when I read the Psalms! If you are feeling sad or discouraged, they will lift your spirits! This year I am reading a Parallel Bible and one of the translations is the Amplified Bible.
I have noticed that sometimes after several verses there will be the word “Selah.” I always just assumed this meant “Amen,” like an affirmation of what we have just read. But recently I saw that after the word Selah, it says to pause and calmly think of that!
Psalm 3:6 says, “I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me round about.”
Psalm 3:7 says, “Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God! For you have struck all my enemies on the cheek! You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.”
Psalm 3:8 says, “Salvation belongs to the Lord; May Your blessings be upon Your people.”
And there it is! Selah (pause and calmly think of that)!
So let’s do that! Let’s think about what is in these three verses. We will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who are against us! The Lord has struck our enemies and broken their teeth. And His blessings are upon us.
Now pause – give yourself some time to take that all in! And calmly think of that! Such a great word! God telling us to just pause and think of what He does for us.
And I know exactly what He is saying. He wants us to understand what we have read and keep it in our hearts. The only thing is, when you pause and think of all He has done, it’s kind of hard to remain calm! I think God would actually be okay if you give Him a shout of praise right now! It’s really hard to be calm when we begin to think of the goodness and blessings He gives us every day!
