Pleasing the Father

Sometimes God speaks to us in a whisper and sometimes it seems that He shouts in our ear.

Recently, I heard a “shout”! I had been to a lovely event. Everyone was dressed up. The tables and decorations were beautiful. The speaker was amazing and at the end, we were encouraged to make a donation. I did and left feeling like I had “done my part.” (Yes, maybe I was a little prideful.)

On my way home, I ran into a store to pick up a few things. While I was there, I saw a friend who said she was buying a card and gift for a sick child she was praying for. As I finished my shopping, I thought about her day and my day. I had enjoyed an incredibly fun day. And yes, God could definitely use the money I had donated.

But this lady had come out to give of her time and money to buy a card and gift for a child who could really use some encouragement. It might seem like a small thing, but her heart and the sacrifice she was making, really made an impression on me.

So, how does God see our acts of service? Is He pleased with me? Do I give with the right motive and attitude?

1 Samuel 16:7 says, “…man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

I want to do the right thing with the right attitude. I want to please the Father in everything I say and do.

I left the store that day with tears in my eyes. I just wanted to say, “Thank you, my friend. I saw Jesus in you today! And I know the Father was pleased!”
