Peter, James and John in a Sailboat

If you grew up in church like I did, you will probably remember this song. The verses kind of go like this:

Peter and James and John in a sailboat out on the deep blue sea.

Fished all night but caught no fish.

Jesus came walking on the water.

He said, “Cast your nets on the other side.”

And then the boat was full of fish.

Simple, right? But look at the principles we see here. Sometimes we do our best and still come up empty. And then Jesus comes and says to try it this way. And we want to ask, “Why?”

But if we listen and obey His voice, then something happens. He fills our boats with exactly what we are needing – an abundance of fish!

So the lesson from this little song is: Do your best. Listen to God’s voice. Be quick to obey. And enjoy the abundance of His blessings!

It is not so much about which side of the boat the fish are on, but more that God knows how to get the fish to us when we obey!

Proverbs 28:25 – “But He who trusts in the Lord will prosper.”
