Five Loaves and Two Fish

There’s a wonderful story in Matthew 14 where Jesus fed the multitude with five loaves of bread and two fish. I think this story is so fascinating. We’ve probably heard it from the time we were little children.

They needed to feed the people, but their food supply was limited. So, Jesus took what they had, as meager as it was, and He blessed it and began to pass out the food. Everyone was fed. The Bible says everyone was satisfied and there were twelve full baskets left over.

But here’s the thing that I think is so interesting. Jesus could do anything He wanted. He was there at creation. It would have been nothing for Him to suddenly have a “Long John Silver’s box meal” just appear in everyone’s lap. But that wasn’t His plan. It was more gradual.

The food multiplied as they served it. It might have taken a little longer than just suddenly appearing, but it was still the most amazing miracle. And, the miracle happened as the disciples were serving the people.

Do you need a miracle in your life? Maybe the answer to your prayer will come as you reach out and begin to serve. And don’t forget the twelve baskets left over. Just more proof that our God is able to do “exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think.” (Ephesians 3:20)

Or as the Amplified Bible says, “…to do superabundantly, far over and above all that we (dare) ask or think (infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes or dreams).”

The God we serve is able to do infinitely more than we can hope or dream! And that’s a lot!
