Lions

The dictionary describes a lion as “a large ferocious cat.” There are many different references to lions in the Bible.

In 1 Peter 5:8 it says, “…be vigilant and cautious at all times: for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring (in fierce hunger), seeking someone to seize upon and devour.”

That’s a pretty frightening thought, that the enemy is just like a lion ready to destroy us!

But that isn’t the only reference to “lions” in the Bible. In Revelation 5:5 it says, “See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root (Source) of David, has won (has overcome and conquered).” This reference is about Jesus.

It seems like the enemy always has a counterfeit to what God has. And, yes, there is a real enemy out there. But the good news is that one day we will see Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and in that day, we will realize that He has won, He has overcome, and He has conquered.

That’s the mighty God we serve! He is victorious! And because of what Jesus did on the cross, we can be victorious, too. The enemy as a roaring lion can never touch the Lion of the Tribe of Judah! We are victorious!!
