Mountain Climbers
While I don’t think I would ever attempt it myself, watching mountain climbers is really fascinating to me. I just wonder what it feels like when you step on that rock or ledge and it begins to crumble. You may have protection for your head, but what good will that do if you fall to the ground?
When we put our feet on the rocks we want them to feel secure, or as the dictionary defines security, “free from danger, safe, firm, stable.” But what if it doesn’t feel secure and begins to give way?
Let’s look again at those mountain climbers. Yes, they have helmets and yes, they have been well-trained. But there’s something else. There’s a harness attached to them that keeps them secure. That’s their “lifeline,” just in case.
In a very real sense, Jesus is our lifeline. Just in case our path is shaky. Just in case we lose our footing. We can be secure knowing that Jesus is holding us up! In Hebrews 13:5 it says He will never leave us or forsake us. I love the Amplified translation of this verse:
…For He (God) Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless, nor forsake nor let [you] down, [relax My hold on you]. Assuredly not!
Does it get any clearer than that? He will not fail us, leave us, or even relax His hold on us! Rest in the assurance that He’s got you and everything is under control!
