Psalm 86

I love all the Psalms, but Psalm 86 is really a good one. It starts out by just being real and telling God what we need.

“Bend an ear, God; answer me, I’m one miserable wretch…Help your servant—I’m depending on you! You’re my God; have mercy on me. I count on you from morning to night.” Psalm 86:1-2 (MSG)

But after the Psalmist has told God his needs, he begins to talk about the goodness and faithfulness of God.

“In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me. I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me. But you, O Lord are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” Psalm 86:7, 12, 13, 15 (NIV)

It’s when we begin to remember and proclaim His goodness that we really see our faith increase. This is how we encourage ourselves in the Lord. And when we encourage ourselves in Him, we find ourselves not feeling defeated, but walking in victory. I pray today that you are living a victorious life, remembering the goodness and faithfulness of our God.
