Steps
There’s a beautiful song called “Steps” that a friend of mine, Ladonna Gatlin, sings. Her brother, Larry Gatlin, actually wrote it and she recorded it on her Christmas CD. There’s a classic book called In His Steps. The book and the song got me thinking. What are my steps going to be in 2021? Where are they going to take me?
Every day, Eddy and I pray, “Lord, order our steps today.” I think that’s a great prayer to pray. But honestly, since we have begun to pray that, sometimes our steps take a very different turn than what I had planned for that day. I have everything planned out, and then in the middle, something will come up and plans change. But if we are really wanting to be in the center of God’s will, we will be okay with that.
I think back to “interruptions” in the life of Jesus. There was the time when the woman touched the hem of His garment and she was healed. Jesus stopped and said, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
There was another time when a storm arose on the sea. The disciples were so fearful. Jesus was asleep in the boat and they woke Him. And He stilled the storm. Another interruption. Over and over, He had interruptions. In fact, He welcomed them.
If I really want to be more like Jesus, I will be available for interruptions. In fact, I will welcome them, too. So, my prayer this year is, “Lord, order my steps. When I have things that change my plans, help me be flexible. Help me be your hand extended to those who are hurting and in need of a Savior.”
