He Goes Before Us and Behind Us

Isaiah is one of my favorite books in all the Bible. Chapter after chapter and verse after verse, I just love it!

In Isaiah 52:12 it says that the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

I don’t know about you, but I am always in need of direction. Even if I have been someplace more than once, I will put the address in my phone again. I want to make sure I get to the right place at the right time. So, direction is really important to me.

But then there are the words “rear guard.” I didn’t realize that phrase was actually in the dictionary. And here is what it says: “a detachment to follow and protect a marching army.” How powerful is it to know that the God of Israel Himself is following and protecting us.

If we put all of this together, we realize that He is out in front of us, leading and directing us, but He is also following and protecting us. Doesn’t it just make sense that we should put faith and trust in Him every day?
