What God Does and What We Do

“…They called upon the Lord, and He answered them…they kept His testimonies and the statutes that He gave them.” Psalm 99:6-7

There is an important sequence of events in these verses. God’s people called on Him for his help. That’s what we always do when we need Him. And just like God always does, He answered them.

But the next part is what is really important as well. God has done His part, but it’s up to us to do our part. It says they kept His testimonies and the statutes, or laws, that He gave them. So many times in desperation, we cry out to God. And in those moments we promise God everything!

But what happens after that? Sometimes we get busy or negligent and we forget the promises we make to God. He wants to bless us and answer our prayers, but He wants us to follow Him, obey Him, and do His will in response to what He has done for us.

The next time you are asking God for His blessing or provision, remember that our obedience is really important to Him. He wants to bless us but He wants us to follow after Him with all of our hearts and do His will.
