Praising Continually

I woke up recently after not sleeping well the night before. Quite honestly, I was not in a great mood. But for some reason Psalm 34:1 popped into my head. It was one of my first thoughts that morning.

“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Really? So even when I haven’t slept, I am supposed to bless the Lord and continually praise Him? Yes! Absolutely!! And it doesn’t just stop there. We are to praise Him when finances are tight, when we are in physical pain, or maybe struggling in a relationship. No matter what the circumstances are, we still need to praise God.

There are a couple of key words in the verse—praise and continually. Praise means to glorify the attributes of God. Continually means constantly, often repeated. No matter what is going on in our lives, on our best days and on our worst days, we are to glorify Him constantly. He wants our praise all day long.

The very best way to work our way through a difficult situation is to bless Him and praise His Name—continually. And the amazing thing is that when we do this, our attitude begins to change, and in spite of everything, our day suddenly gets better!
